NaNo Day 26 [26 Nov 2008|08:24pm]
[ mood | happy ]

IT'S DONE!!!!!!!

Final Word Count - 50,349.  I think NaNo's official page has me a word or two higher, but by all accounts, IT"S OVER!!!!!

Thanks so much to Rad and Ron and his Sakura for following along and offering support throughout this long, long month.  It's been an interesting experience to say the least.  Don't know if I'll do it next year but it's great to be able to say I did do it!

And I shall celebrate by stuffing myself silly tomorrow.  Perfect timing for Turkey Day.

So close, but too burnt out to finish today.  Tomorrow though, this whole thing shall be done!  Just a piddly 1,077 words to go!

NaNo Days 17-20 [20 Nov 2008|10:11pm]
[ mood | sleepy ]

Word Count - 40,113

So in twenty days, I've managed to crank out over 40K words, which means in the next ten days, I only need to write 10K.  I started this thing thinking I'd crap out at around 15K.  Of course, I also started this thing thinking I'd write something that wouldn't take longer to edit it than it did to write it. :P

But now I have good news:

Yep, I'm over halfway done and it's only the 13th.  Woohoo!

Despite the off day, I'm still ahead of the game by a whole day.  This thing is looking like a lock.

[ mood | blah ]

Word Count - 12,639

Little less writing today but I actually came up with a paragraph that I sort of like!  Woo!  I even like it enough to share.

Just a little background - the story's semi-inspired by my paternal grandmother who was, um, to put it delicately, not a particularly nice person.  It's about two sisters going down to Florida to help settle the estate of their not so nice grandmother.  The story has about as much resemblance to my life as a sweeps month Law & Order has to the shocking headlines that inspired it but it is nice to sneak in some details about actual grandma that people previously thought I was making up.  :P

Semi-decent paragraph withinCollapse )

Word Count - 10,549 (Over 20% done!!!)

Stil cruising at over 2K words a day and I finally managed to log on to the NaNo site.  It lumped my word total all into one day.  It makes the chart that shows my progress look ucky.  Oh, well...

The spewing of words continues as does my inability to access the NaNo official site.

Word Count - 6,340

I am now 12.68% done.  I am 34% percent tired of tracking these stats.

Yes, I'm spamming my own journal but I feel this is a good way to keep me on track.  Besides, it's about time I actually used this thing.  I can't log on to the NaNo site to save my life anyway.

Day 2 Count - 4,112
Average Words per Day - 2,056

Considering I only (yeah, only) have to average about 1,667 words a day, I'm feeling pretty good.

NaNoWriMo [31 Oct 2008|09:16pm]
[ mood | anxious ]

So...tomorrow's November 1st.  I'm still committed to doing this thing but I'm feeling increasingly crazy for trying it.  It's in the realm of possibility.  I have a plot mostly worked out.  When I'm really moving, I do a little over a thousand words an hour.  Feasible?  Yeah.  Gonna happen?  Uh....

I did manage to get off my butt and sign up on the official NaNo forums to keep me motivated.  Plus, I'll get a nifty thingie to stick on my LJ should I actually manage to pump out 50K words.  Thingies are nice.

Of course it would help if this thing didn't hit during the biggest release season for videogames.

Wish me luck!

What's 'to brag' in Italian? [25 Jul 2008|08:05pm]
[ mood | bouncy ]

A few weeks ago, I got a very nice email asking to translate a few of my Final Fantasy VII stories into Italian.  Today, there was a follow up email stating one of the stories was up and I've already gotten comments.  Can't speak a word of Italian but it's really frickin' cool just seeing the story there.  Naturally, I've been babelfishing it like a loon.  (Okay, maybe unnaturally).

Here's a link in case you have a strange urge to see what my babblings look like in Italian.

[16 Jan 2008|09:26pm]
[ mood | silly ]

I've been reading The Terror by Dan Simmons lately.  It's an amazing horror novel that while featuring copious amounts of gore, is much more about atmosphere and the humanity (and inhumanity) of the characters.  It's also a great piece of historical fiction.

I just have one problem with it.  The ferocious beast that's hunting the characters is described in very vivid imagery as basically a polar bear from hell with massive claws and teeth yet whenever it's on the page, the only thing I can picture in my mind is this:

Yeah. Bumble, the Abominable Snowman from those Rankin Bass Christmas specials.  He's kind of a mood killer.  O_O

Great book though.

Obligatory Resolution Post [01 Jan 2008|09:00pm]
[ mood | sick ]

Long time no post.  Might as well put these down for posterity.

Highest Priority Resolution: I WILL NOT CATCH A FREAKING COLD DURING MY FREAKING CHRISTMAS VACATION!!!!! For the second year in a row, I ring in the New Year with a congested head and a chorus of coughs. I had from Saturday the 22nd to Monday the 1st off and I was sick every single damn day. Need I point out this sucks? Cause it does. It sucks hard.

Now for the serious, germ-free resolutions:

1. Finish Intrigues of a Princess - Definitely doable and more than likely by summer. Which will free me up for…

2. Participate in NaNoWriMo - Participation doable, actually finishing the 50K words is another matter entirely. I know I’m capable of getting at least 1/5 there pretty easily so who knows.

3. I said something about keeping up with my correspondence last year as a joke but this year, I think I’ll try to mean it. I’ve been absolutely horrible in keeping up with review responses and e-mail in general. This needs to be rectified.

I’d also add one about finishing video games that I start but making a bullet point resolution about a leisure activity doesn’t seem kosher (though this is probably the one I'll work on most :P )
